UPDATED: Man snowmobiling caught in avalanche east of Vernon dies from injuries

The North Okanagan man caught in an avalanche while snowmobiling in the Cherryville area Saturday has died.

RCMP said the 34-year-old man succumbed to injury Saturday night at Kelowna General Hospital after being caught in the avalanche almost 50 kilometres east of Vernon in the Monashee Mountains.

Mounties with the Lumby detachment, along with Vernon Search and Rescue personnel, were dispatched to the avalanche site near the Keefer Lake resort Saturday afternoon.

RCMP said emergency services people at the resort helped pull the man out, who was treated by ambulance personnel and airlifted to KGH.

The name of the victim has not been released.
