The Vancouver Whitecaps have difficulty keeping star players on the MLS squad so the squad is calling on youngsters to fill the void somewhere down the line.

Nelson soccer player Parker Shaw-Lazier hopes to one day be that player.

Shaw-Lazier started the long road after the Caps came calling to invite the 15-year-old midfielder to a trial with the Caps Pre-Residency Squad.

The Nelson Youth Soccer and Kootenay Academy member is off to the trial March 7-9 in front of Whitecaps evaluators.

Whitecaps FC Academy Centres are a network of regional Whitecaps FC training hubs linked through key staff, curriculum, and standards that provide professional supplemental club training for serious, motivated players.

These Academy Centres act as official Whitecaps FC development centres, and are often in partnership with a local organization. Each Academy Centre can involve a variety of Academy and camp development programs based on the location and partnership.
