Not so fast as local citizen deals with attempted fraud

A local citizen did the right thing when she questioned a mysterious caller looking for funds earlier this week said Nelson Police.

The stranger phone call came in Tuesday (January 21) to a local citizen.

The suspicious call came from a male claiming to be related to the person and needing assistance because he was in hospital.

Being alert the woman told the caller she would call his mother to verify this information. 

The male quickly hung up the phone.

This was likely an attempt to defraud funds from an unsuspecting victim.

Nelson Police would like to remind people to be cautious of calls of this nature as there are those that are trying impersonate family members in urgent need of funds in order to steal their money.

Outstanding warrants lands man in court

A person of interest is in front of the courts after Nelson Police arrested a male believed to be in the Heritage City on numerous warrant.

Monday (January 20), Nelson Police received a tip a male was in Nelson with several warrants, including no contact with the people staying at the same residence as the man.

While checking the residence he answered the door and was taken into custody for the warrants and now new charges of failing to comply with his court orders. 

The man was brought before the courts in Nelson to answer to all his charges.
