The Fontaine family is beside themselves after friends raised more than 16,000 to help Katrina Fontaine during a Burger & Beer event Friday at Finley’s in Nelson.

The pub was packed with friends eager to raise money to help Katrina Fontaine with her fight a rare genetic condition affecting the collagen in her body called Ehlers Danlos Syndrome.

Between the Burger & Beer, 50/50, donations at the event and the Silent Auction, the evening topped the $16,000 mark with the total climbing from online donations.

Katrina has undergone two very successful surgeries and is heading home much improved.

Roger Fontaine is incredibly touched by the generosity and kindness their family has received.

“Thank you is just not enough,” he said.
