LVR Winter Debate Tournament in need of judges

The LVR debate team, hosting its third annual winter debate tournament on (Saturday) December 7, is looking for judges.

The debate format is ‘impromptu’ (students get their topic one hour before the first debate) and the emphasis is on ‘selling the sizzle’ and a convincing performance, and less on the research (because there isn’t any time to research!).

Students love this format.

There is  also a public speaking contest after lunch.

The students prepare a 4-5 minute speech from a list of topics released 2-3 week ahead of time. Last year, participants used the titles from famous songs and the kids blew judges away with their creativity and passion.

Debate judging is a lot of fun and requires no experience.

There will be a judges meeting/workshop at 8:30 a.m. the morning of the event.

There is also snacks, coffee, lunch provided and the promise of a great time.
