Leafs first regulation loss of the season an ugly 9-3 thrashing Sunday in Creston
The Nelson Leafs suffered its first regular this Kootenay International Junior Hockey League season loss of the season Sunday in Creston.
However, the setback was not your everyday one or two goal decisions.
This was an all-out 9-3 pasting with starting goalie Tyler Moffat being chased after the first period and replacement Brad Rebagliati not having that much success against a hungry Thunder Cats offence.
Brandon Formosa and Jesse Collins each scored twice to lead the Thunder Cats to the victory.
After the teams each exchanged two goals through the opening 15 minutes of the game, Creston scored seven times in the next 29 minutes to rout the Leafs.
Carsen Willans, Linden Horswill and Austin Seaman scored for Nelson.
Despite the crushing setback, the Leafs remain on top of the Neil Murdoch Division holding an eight-point advantage over Beaver Valley Nitehawks.
Nelson returns to action Friday in Princeton against the Posse.
Next home game for the Leafs is Wednesday, November 20 against the surging Grand Forks Border Bruins.
