Silver the colour of the day for Mitch Popadynetz at Canada Summer Games

Mitch Popadynetz and Team BC had to settle for silver at the Canada Games in Sherbrooke, Que.

Team Quebec scored a 2-0 victory over the West Coasters in the Gold Medal Final of Men’s Soccer Saturday at the 2013 Canada Summer Games.

Raphael De Chantal Dumont and Andreas Troche scored for Team Quebec to power the host province to the gold medal.

Popadynetz, from Nelson Youth Soccer, and Team BC settled for silver.

Popadynetz, Team BC off to Gold Medal Final at Canada Games

Mitch Popadynetz booted Team BC into the Canada Games Men’s Gold Medal Final Friday in Sherbrooke, Que.

The Nelson Youth Soccer product scored the game’s only goal to power Team BC to a 1-0 victory over Ontario in medal round action.

Team BC now advances to the Men’s Soccer Gold Medal Final Saturday at 1:30 PT against Team Quebec.

The game is a rematch of the scoreless round robin game played between the two teams.

Team BC tied Manitoba in the other round robin game 1-1.

Team BC then edged Nova Scotia 1-0 to advance to the semi finals.

The Canada Games tournament is a great tune up for Popadynetz.

The skillful midfielder has been recruited by defending CIAU National Champion University of BC.

The T-Birds begin defence of the university title September 6 with a road game at Victoria.

The team’s first home match will take place two days later on David Sidoo Field at Thunderbird Stadium against Fraser Valley.
