Corazón and Lalin hold auditions for 2013-14
The Corazón Vocal Ensemble will be holding auditions for new members on the afternoon and evening of September 10, 2013, in Nelson. There will also be auditions for Lalin, a sub-group of Corazón that features college-age singers and more advanced music.
“Anyone age 13 or older and who loves to sing is welcome,” says the group’s director, Allison Girvan.
To audition, singers should email Allison before August 31 at [email protected] to book a time and to get more information about the location and how to prepare.
Corazón is a 65-voice youth choir based in Nelson, ranging in age from 13 to 21. Over the past twelve years the group has gained a reputation throughout western Canada for its vibrant presence, professional presentation, surprising repertoire, and great voices.
Membership requirements include an annual membership fee, attendance at a weekly rehearsal combined with online study, and participation in several concerts throughout the year.
In the upcoming year, Corazón and Lalin will be travelling to the Voices West Festival in Burnaby and to the Kaleid Festival in London, Ontario. The group will also perform several concerts locally.
Benefits of membership include detailed musical training, participation in a fun and serious community of young performing artists of various ages, the opportunity for mentorship by the director and older singers, and the chance to expand your musical and personal horizons.
Corazón is a powerful incubator of local talent. Many young people have gone on to success in music or theatre bolstered by their vocal training in the group. In 2009, Nelson City Council named Corazón one of the city’s official Cultural Ambassadors.
In addition, there will be registration for Allison’s two younger non-auditioned choirs, SongCore (ages 7-9) and VoixVive (ages 10 and up). Interested parents should email Allison in August.
