After more than 90 years of operation on the West Arm of Kootenay Lake, Camp Koolaree came close to closing its doors, for good.

However, thanks to community support and a gracious big-ticket donation from an anonymous person, Camp Koolaree is alive and well and ready to welcome campers for the upcoming season, beginning July 8.

“In just over three months we’ve moved from in debt and despair to well funded and confident of our ability to offer a camping experience to any child or family that wants to have one,” said board Treasurer Deanne Steven.

The camp, located on the south side on the West Arm of Kootenay Lake, runs weekly sessions into August.

It’s mission of Camp Koolaree is to offer natural setting where campers and staff can deepen their understanding of what it means to live with respect in creation, to love and serve others, and to be good stewards of God’s world.

Staff at Mallard’s Source for sports would like to honour the hard work everyone associated with Camp Koolaree by selecting them Team of the Week.
