Leafs secure Sean Dooley as assistant coach for upcoming KIJHL season
The Nelson Leafs reached back into its roots to find an assistant coach for the upcoming season, naming Sean Dooley assistant for the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League season.
Dooley, no stranger to the Leafs having served in the same capacity in 2010-11 with head coach Chris Shaw, joins returning head coach Frank Maida behind the bench as Nelson plays host to the 2014 Cyclone Taylor Cup.
Dooley is a Nelson Minor Hockey grad who was drafted by the Prince Albert Raiders of the Western Hockey League. He served as an assistant coach to skipper Mario DiBella last season with the Kootenay Ice Major Midget club.
He played for the Leafs as a 15-year-old rookie before graduating to three seasons of European Professional Hockey with Dundalk Bulls, winning two league titles.
The Leafs gain an automatic bye into the Cyclone Taylor Cup set for April 2014.
The four team tournament has representation from the three Junior B Leagues in B.C. KIJHL, Pacific Coast and Vancouver Island Junior Leagues.
