Nelson Reps grab four gold medals at Terry Walgren Tourney; U15s upset U16s
Nelson Youth Soccer teams captured half of the gold medals as the 2013 Terry Walgren Rep Tournament concluded under sunny skies Sunday afternoon at the Lakeside Pitch.
Nelsonites won two golds on the girl’s side of the tourney and a pair of top prizes on the boy’s side.
The Nelson U15 Girls were the proudest of the lot after knocking off their older U16 cousins in the U16 Girl’s final.
Darian Voisard scored twice as the younger squad edged the older U16s for the second time on the weekend.
Friday, Allie Zondervan scored the lone goal as the U15s upset the U16s 1-0. The U15s finished the tournament with a 3-0-1 record.
In the U18 division, Nelson edged Kelowna United for the gold medal.
Kootenay South won both the U14 and U15 Girls divisions with Nelson placing second in the U14 division.
On the boy’s side, Nelson Selects took home the top prize in the U14 Boys Division while Nelson U17s won the U18 Boys title.
Kootenay South edged Nelson Selects in the final of the U13 Boys while Kootenay South claimed the U15 Boy’s Division.
A total of 29 teams from throughout the Kootenay region competed in the three-day tournament.
Sunday also marked the debut of the B.C. Soccer U12 Festival Jamboree. Fourteen teams entered the tournament that kept no scores and no results.
