Bombers Baseball back at Queen Elizabeth Friday

Baseball is back for another season at Queen Elizabeth Park as the L.V. Rogers Bombers host its annual High School Tournament Friday and Saturday at the Fairview-based park.

Bombers open the three-team tourney playing a twin-bill Friday begining at 5 p.m. against the Selkirk Storm of Kimberley.

LVR then meets Mount Baker Wild at 7 p.m.

The Bombers battle the both Baker and Selkirk Saturday at 12:15 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Saturday to conclude the tournament.

LVR tuned up for the tourney splitting a pair of games against Timberlake Tigers of Spirit Lake, Idaho Tuesday.

The Tigers took game one 6-4 before LVR rallied back to win the nightcap 7-3.

John Barabonoff took the loss in game one throwing four solid innings giving up all six runs, five hits, four walks and recording one strike out. Braden Zarikoff came in and pitched three shutout innings in relief, giving up one hit and striking out two.

The Bombers collected 11 hits, with Braden, (four singles) Austin Tambellini (two singles), Daine Olenek (two singles), Reese Tambellini, (two singles), and Gun Woo Park (one single) collecting the hits. The team also collected four walks.

In Game two Austin Tambellini carried a no hitter into the fourth inning, finishing the game with a two hitter, giving up three unearned runs, striking out nine, and walking one.

Offensively the team collected five hits, walked three times, and struck out seven times. Key hits from Daine, and Keaton Roch broke a 3-3 tie and put the game away for the Bombers. The team was helped by three Tiger errors in the game.
