BC Coroners Service has confirmed a woman died after falling into a golf course pond near Kimberley as Deborah Marie Blais.

Blais, 55, was reported her missing to Kimberley RCMP by her family just before 6 p.m. Sunday. She had taken her dog for a walk along pathways at a local golf course.

Family members later found the dog.

Kimberley Search and Rescue was called in to assist with the search.

RCMP said it became evident that Blais may have fallen into a retention pond.

The dive team found the body Monday.

The B.C. Coroners Service said the death is the subject of an accidental death inquiry.

The coroner would consider whether there are any reasonable steps that could or should be taken to prevent future deaths in similar circumstances.
