BC Coroners Service identifies California man killed in skiing mishap

The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a man who died following a skiing incident near Nakusp Thursday (March 21) as Stanley Irving Hegg, aged 68, of Emeryville, California, near San Francisco.

Hegg was a member of a commercial cat-skiing party operating out of Trout Lake. Shortly before noon on March 21, while skiing on Ferguson Mountain north of Trout Lake, Mr. Hegg fell head-first into a tree well.

Guides and other members of the group dug Hegg out as quickly as possible, but he could not be resuscitated and died at the scene.

The BC Coroners Service and RCMP continue to investigate this death.
