Cats Jessie Rehwald buzzer beater sinks Bombers at Kootenay Klassic
Senior Jessie Rehwald sank a 16-footer with no time left on the clock to spark the Mount Sentinel Wildcats to a thrilling 37-36 victory over the L.V. Rogers Bombers in the consolation final of the Kootenay Klassic High School Girl’s Basketball Tournament Saturday at the Hangar.
Rehwald’s bucket came after the Bombers had reeled off nine consecutive points to take a 36-35 lead, leaving the Cats with only 4.3 ticks left on the game clock.
The Cats and Bombers played in the consolation final after suffering tough semi final losses to a pair of East Kootenay teams — David Thompson Lakers of Invermere and Selkirk Storm of Kimberley.
The Storm rocked the Lakers in the tourney final 51-26.
Rehwald finished the game as the leading scorer for Mount Sentinel with 11 points while Kaija Peirson had 10.
Replying for LVR were Devyn Parker with a game-high 15 points and Mikaeka Mori with five.
The Cats opened the tournament with a 42-13 rout of Stanley Humphries Rockers before losing 32-30 to David Thompson.
The Bombers defeated Boundary Central of Midway 43-26 then lost to Selkirk Storm 63-46.
Game stars for LVR were Danica Dahlin, Jaydne Roch and Mikaela Mori while Devyn Parker earned tournament allstar status.
The Bombers were in action at the Hangar Tuesday against the J. Lloyd Crowe Hawks before traveling to Rossland Wednesday to meet the Royals.
LVR then travels to Agassiz Friday to compete in a tournament.
The Bombers host the Kootenay AA High School Girl’s Basketball Championships February 22-23 at the Hangar.
