Mallard's Team of the Week — Mount Sentinel Wildcats Volleyball
All season long the Mount Sentinel Wildcats had visions of adding another blue banner to the gymnasium at the South Slocan-based school.
In the end, the team may have won more than a banner after capturing the bronze medal at the B.C. High School A Girl’s Volleyball Championships held recently at the Selkirk College Gymnasium in Castlegar.
The Cats overcame a lot of adversity and, powered by the home crowd, pulled off a 2-0 sweep of White Rock Christian in the best-of-three bronze medal match. After the match senior Jessie Rehwald said winning the medal was like winning the entire tournament.
Kelowna Christian defeated Immaculata to win the gold medal.
Staff at Mallard’s Source for sports would like to salute the squad on their crowning achievement by selecting them Team of the Week.
The team includes, from left, assistant coach Brittney Soobotin, Malin Chernoff, Jessie Rehwald, Kyra Makortoff, Kaitlin Minvielle, Lynnea Carr, Zahra Askary, Madia Rehwald, Breanne Minor and head coach Joe Moreira.
