Elderly woman involved in three-car collision in Mall parking lot

An elderly woman was taken to Kootenay Lake Hospital following a three-vehicle accident in the parking lot of the Chahko Mika Mall Friday afternoon.

The 81-year-old driver accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brake causing her to lose control before colliding with two unoccupied vehicles.

Nelson Police attended and the woman was transported to hospital as a precaution.

The woman’s vehicle was towed away due to extensive damage while tow truck operator pulled the two other vehicles apart.

Unattended, idling vehicle crashes through fence

A Nelson resident reported to Nelson Police his vehicle had crashed through a fence before coming to rest in the front yard of another home.

The accident happened at 11:43 a.m. Thursday (December 13) when the owner left the vehicle running and unattended only to find it gone when he returned.

The resident then discovered the vehicle in the yard of another home.

Damage to the fence was estimated at $1500.

Police would like to remind the public never to leave insecure or running vehicle unattended. It’s an offence under the Motor Vehicle Act.

Holiday road checks net 24-suspension and marijuana

The latest round of Christmas CounterAttack saw police stop more than 420 vehicles Thursday (December 13) at various locations around the city.

During the inspections, police issued on 24-hour road suspension as well as seized marijuana from three separate vehicles.

Police also issued several violation tickets along with one driver received a $598 fine for no insurance.

Several warnings were also given to motorists.

Nelson Police will continue to set up random roadside inspections during the Christmas Holiday season and want to advise the public drinking and driving fines can run in excess of $5000 while a cab ride in the city costs $20.
