A small half-acre wildfire has turned into a much larger wildfire on Owl Mountain, located south of the Cascade Border crossing in Christina Lake.

Crews from Colville Washington are currently fighting the blaze using platooned water planes.

The airplanes have been spending the past few hours dipping into Christina Lake to fight the every smouldering side of Owl Mountain.

Several Canadian homes, located in the Ponderosa area are within several kilometers of the blaze but the Southeast Fire Centre is not involved in fighting the fire.

The fire started last week by a lightning strike. It was on a remote ridge that was too difficult to get to, so has been burning in a controlled way for the past week.
