Busy holiday weekend for NPD officers
Nelson Police were busy this B.C. Day holiday weekend as the local force responded to more than 80 calls from intoxicated people to a man stealing tip money to thief helping himself to items from a parked car.
Alcohol gets the best of two soon to be bride and groom
Late Sunday night, Nelson Police members were called to the Villa Motel on the north side of the Big Orange Bridge.
The man contacted police that he needed assistance with his intoxicated fiancé.
When police arrived they found both heavily intoxicated and bearing signs of being in a fight.
Both gave contradictory stories as to what happened and were arrested and held until sober.
The two were released the next morning on charges of assault on one another and will appear in Nelson Law Courts Sept 11 to answer to the charges.
Man helps himself to items in parked car
Earlier Sunday, at 4:30 p.m., an anonymous caller reported a male removing property from a parked car and hiding it in a nearby yard near the 800 block second street in lower Fairview.
Upon arrival, officers found the male, known to them and detained him. A quick investigation revealed the car was not the man’s vehicle.
The man was arrested and released for court in Nelson with numerous conditions.
Dog bites off tip of man’s finger near Mountain Station
Saturday, a local man was walking his dog in the Mountain Station area when another canine attacked his dog.
While trying to rescue his dog the aggressive dog bit him, taking the tip of his finger off.
The matter has been forwarded to the Nelson Bylaw Department and RDCK as the animal’s home is outside of Nelson.
Instead of giving a tip, man attempts to steal the tips
At 6 p.m. Saturday, a man was seen attempting to steal tip money from a 400-block Baker Street establishment.
When officers responded the man bolted, forcing police into a brief foot chase.
The man was arrested for breaking previous conditions from a recent incident happening in the same area and appears in Nelson courts to answer to charges of breaching his release conditions.
Intoxicated male almost gets hit staggering in street
At 11:20 p.m. Friday, a couple approached an NPD member advising the officer they almost hit an intoxicated male staggering in the middle of the street.
When police located the male on the corner of Baker and Ward Streets, the man fled.
After a brief foot chase the male stopped, but rather than surrendering, challenged the officers to a fight.
During the altercation, the 18-year-old man took several swings and the officers and attempted to tear off their radios.
The male was subdued by police and lodged in NPD cells.
A judge ordered the man to be held in custody until his first court appearance August 14.
Man caught smoking pot on Baker bolts from Bylaw officer
Friday, at noon, a member of the Bylaw Department noticed a male smoking a joint in the 400 block of Baker Street.
Before the Bylaw officer could identify the male, he bolted but was quickly stopped by NPD members en route.
The man quickly turned his joint over to members, who also found a small baggie of marijuana during the search incident to arrest.
He was detained and held for court in Nelson Tuesday (August 7) because of his extensive criminal record.
