Louie's surprises defending champion Jackson's Hole to capture 2012 Mixed Slopitch title
There will be no 16th title for Jackson’s Hole.
Starter Ken Anderson kept the high-powered Jackson’s offence off balance for most of the game sparking the Louie’s to 12-6 victory in the final of the Nelson Mixed Slopitch League Sunday at Queen Elizabeth Park.
The win avenged two losses in the final to Jackson’s by Louie’s in the past three seasons.
In the 2011 final Jackson’s, which has won 15 of the last 19 Mixed Slopitch Titles, defeated Louie’s 13-3.
Prestige Thunder won the title in 2010.
The teams played through two scoreless innings before Louie’s finally got to Jackson’s starter Lorne Wuori.
Jackson’s Hole entered the final without a loss in the playoffs while Louie’s took the back door route after losing to The Competition.
In the B Final, Bogustown scored three in the final inning to edge Wild Cards 9-8.
Bogustown entered its final bats trailing 8-6.
In C-event, Nelson and District Credit Union blasted Caits Crew to win the title.
The tournament concludes what has been a frustrating mixed slopitch season players.
June rains and Kootenay Lake flooding canceled many games before kicking the league from its normal Lakeside Ball Diamonds home, forcing league brass to move the games, and playoff tournament, to Queen Elizabeth Park.
