Keep the Beat keeps packing them in
The Keep the Beat music festival once again packed the crowds in at Lakeside Park to raise money for War Child Canada.
From noon to 10 p.m. Wednesday at Lakeside Park bands played for the many people attending.
Organized without adults, and with almost no overhead, the event has raised more than $12,000 the past few years.
The organizing group always consists of a dozen or so girls, and the membership gradually changes over the years as the older ones move on and younger ones join.
It’s an extraordinary example of peer mentoring, with the younger ones eventually becoming mentors themselves.
