Bombers drop shootout decision to Parkland to finish in top ten at AA Girl's Soccer Championships

Despite losing 2-1 to Vancouver Island opposition Parkland, the L.V. Rogers Bombers finished eighth overall at the B.C. High School AA Girl’s Soccer Championships Saturday in Kamloops.

The Sidney-based school defeated LVR in shootout after the teams played to a 1-1 tie through regulation time.

Andrea Stinson scored the lone goal for the Bombers.

LVR finished in a three-way tie for second in Pool D play with a 0-1-2 record.

The Bombers managed a better goal average to steal the second place spot and move into the five-to-eight pool against Richmond’s McNair.

However, LVR failed to get past the Lower Mainland squad losing 2-1. Morag Paterson scored for the Bombers.

LVR opened the tournament with a scoreless tie against host Sahali Sabres.

The Bombers then dropped a 3-1 decision to the eventual champion, Seycove of Deep Cove in Vancouver.

Paige Mansveld scored for LVR.

LVR concluded the round robin draw with a 1-1 draw against Surrey Christian. The Bomber appeared to be heading for the win when the squad was whistled for a penalty shot in the box.

Surrey Christian tied the game on the dot shot.

Mansveld once again scored for LVR.

The Bombers advanced to the 16-team tournament by capturing the Kootenay championships with convincing wins over Stanley Humphries Rockers of Castlegar and Invermere’s David Thompson Lakers.

Four senior players from the Bombers have already commited to play varsity soccer in Lethbridge and Calgary.

Paterson and Brittany Wheeler are off to Lethbridge while Stinson and Taylor Stewart will play at the University of Calgary next season.
