Bombers get some down under rugby hospitality compliments Francis Douglas Memorial College
The L.V. Rogers Bombers learned how the sport should be played during a friendly contest against Francis Douglas Memorial College of Taranaki, New Zealand in Kamloops.
The Bombers joined forced with players from the Kamloops Rugby Club to play the Kiwi squad.
“Two games were played this past Thursday, both lopsided wins by our touring friends,” said LVR’s Frank Marisco.
“Also a first, being given the rare opportunity to see the traditional Maori “HAKA” performed by the Kiwi players before the two fixtures of the day,” he added.
The next part of the Easter trip took the Bombers to Vancouver for a game played at the Rowers Club at Stanley Park’s Brockton Oval — the club was founded in 1911 and it the oldest rugby club in North America.
LVR showed marked improvement, dumping Vancouver College Fighting Irish 21-12.
LVR Rogers Bombers are hosting a Mystery Tour this week with Mount Boucherie from Kelowna arriving Thursday, billeting over-night then playing LVR on Friday 13th in Trail at 4 p.m.
LVR beat Mount Boucherie three weeks ago in their opening pre-season tournament in Penticton.
The Bombers open the Kootenay Rugby season April 27 in Grand Forks.
LVR meets Kimberley’s Selkirk Storm and Rossland during the six-game playday.
