Up-and-down finish to Simon Fraser golf season for LVR grad Jordan Melanson

Granite Pointe golfer Jordan Melanson had a sea-saw showing at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championship tournament last week in Couer D’lene, Idaho.

Melanson, playing for Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, finished the 54-hole event with scores of 77, 73 and 84 for a tournament total of 234.

Fresh off being named the GNAC All-Academic team, T.J. McColl of Surrey, posted the second best score for the Clan men’s team, firing rounds of 78-77-77 for a tournament score of 232.

Rounding out the Clan men were Calum Miller of Grand Prairie, AB, who shot 77-84-77 for a tournament total of 238 and freshman John Mlikotic of Kelowna who shot 80-76-85 for a tournament total of 241.

The scores allowed both the SFU’s men’s and women’s golf teams had a golfer crack the top 10 at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championship tournament.

Melanson, a junior, is in his second season at Simon Fraser with the Clan golf team. The L.V. Rogers and Zone One West Kootenay grad finished the season with a 78.2 average score.

The SFU golf team will now prepare their annual fundraiser, the Clan Classic Golf Tournament on Monday (April 30) at the Vancouver Golf Club.
