Kaslo/Nelson on the bubble, Nakusp comes up short at Tier IV championships
If the Kaslo/Nelson Midgets want to make the playoff round of the B.C. Hockey Tier III Championships, the players are going about it the wrong way.
Quesnel got the jump on the Reps in the first game of the day, out scoring Kalso/Nelson 6-2 at the B.C. Hockey Tier III Midget Rep Championships Wednesday in Osoyoos.
The loss severely cripples the chances of Kaslo/Nelson as the round robin draw comes to a close.
Kaslo/Nelson, sitting on the outside looking in on the final playoff spot as the playoff round nears, concludes the round robin draw Thursday in the feature game against host South Okanagan at 8:30 p.m.
After opening with a win over Whitehorse, Kaslo/Nelson lost 6-4 to Abbotsford before Wednesday’s losss.
Nakusp comes up short in run to the Tier IV Midget Championships
The host team came up a little short of advancing to the final of the B.C. Hockey Tier IV Midget Rep Championships happening right now in Nakusp.
Kelowna severely cut short the chances of Nakusp by stopping the host team 5-2 Tuesday in late game round robin action.
The teams exchanged goals through the first two periods and a bit, before Kelowna struck for three third-period markers to grab the hard-fought win.
Nakusp, finishing the tournament with a 3-1-1 record, concluded the round robin draw by doubling Whitehorse 8-4.
Nakusp rebounded from a 1-0 deficit to score three consecutive goals by C Reimer, R Batman & J Streliev to take complete control of the game.
M Zorn, D Hascarl, Q Volansky and M McCoy, with a pair, also scored for Nakusp.
Fort St. James met Kelowna in the championship game.
Nakusp finished third overall.
The Peewee Rep Leafs, coached by Brian Jones, and West Kootenay Wildcats, both did not advance to the final round after round robin play at the Peewee Tier III and Bantam Female Championships, respectively.
