Hornets take sting out of Bombers, dump LVR 87-55
The South Okanagan Hornets put a sting into the L.V. Rogers Bombers beating the Kootenay squad 87-55 in consolation round action at the B.C. High School AA Boy’s Basketball Championships Thursday in Kamloops.
South Okanagan, the defending AA Boy’s provincial champion, clamped down on the Bomber offence with a full-court pressure LVR could not handle.
The Hornets press staked the Oliver-based squad to a 22-9 first quarter lead the Bombers were unable to overcome.
“(Oliver) competes like no other team here and if you not ready to match that intensity it’s going to be a long game,” said Bomber coach Ross Naka.
Senior John Zak once again led the Bombers with 17 points while junior forward Matt Zukowski added nine.
The Bombers have little time to heal their wounds as the squad returns to the court Friday at 9 a.m. against Sahali of Kamloops.
The Bombers opened the tournament Wednesday with a loss to top ranked Mission Roadrunners.
The final is slated for Saturday evening.
