A third-quarter lapse cost the L.V. Rogers Bombers a shot at a provincial berth.

David Thompson Lakers out scored the Bombers 15-1 in the third quarter en route to a 41-37 victory in the final of the Kootenay High School AA Girl’s Basketball Championships Saturday in Creston.

The Third quarter was dominated by David Thompson,” Bomber head coach Val Gibson said. “They won that quarter 15-1.”

“The Bombers came on to win the fourth quarter by a score of 14 to 5, but, unfortunately, it was too late,” Gibson, assisted throughout the season by former LVR star Sarah Fuhr, added.

Senior forward Samantha Einarson had nine points to lead the Bombers while Grade 11 point guard Kyley Mirva added seven.

David Thompson earned the right to attend the B.C. High School AA Girl’s Basketball Championships in Kamloops next month.

However, The Nelson Daily has learned the Lakers will forfeit the berth meaning the Kootenay will not have representation in the 16-team provincial tournament.

Grand Forks Wolves represented the Kootenays in 2011 while LVR won the zone title in 2010.

The Bombers opened the three-team tourney by pounding Prince Charles Comets 74-39.

Jayden Roch led the Bomber attack with 18 points while Einarson and Mirva chipped in with 16 and 12 points, respectively.
