Sometimes life gets in the way of hobbies and other interests.

Which is why former L.V. Roger Bomber Chase Rickaby decided to leave the Mount Royal Cougar men’s varsity basketball team to concentrate on his studies.

“I’m not playing any more,” Rickaby said prior hopping on his old stomping grounds, the LVR Hangar, during the annual Bomber Alumni Tournament.

“It was a tough (decision) but it was getting too hard to do both (school and basketball).”

Rickaby, pursing a Bachelor of Nursing degree, had to spend countless hours working in the hospital and found it difficult to put the time in on the court and fulfill school commitments.

While the 5’9” guard wasn’t lighting the Alberta College Athletic Conference on fire in scoring like he did during two seasons with the Bombers, in his third season with the Cougars, he was one of the team leaders playing at the guard position.

Mount Royal was 8-1 on the season, tops in the ACAC South Division.

Rickaby, with 19 points and five assists in the nine ACAC league games, leaves the program with a bronze medal from the 2011 ACAC season.

Chase Rickaby has two brothers, Addison and Clay, who also played for the LVR Bombers program.
