Lewis Loeschnik’s header in the final minutes of the game was enough to push the L.V. Rogers Bombers into the final of the Leo’s Men’s Open Soccer League.

Loeschnik headed the ball over the outstretched hands of Kootenay Co-op goalkeeper Tad Lake to spark the Bombers to a 4-3 victory in semi final action Saturday at the Lakeside Soccer Pitch.

The Bombers now meet defending champion Nelson Innkeepers in the league championship Saturday at Lakeside.

The Innkeepers, regular season champs, were given a free pass to the final after The Action forfeited the semi final contest.

Game time for the final is 3:45 p.m. at Lakeside.

It almost looked like the final would be a game against two bitter rivals, Innkeepers and Co-op after the latter overcame a 3-0 first-half deficit with three goals in a span of 10 minutes.

Goals by Caleb Morton, Orang Momtazian and Martin Lundh, scoring on the rebound after his penalty kick was saved by Bomber keeper Andrew Woodward, pulled Co-op even with plenty of time remaining in the game.

Woodward was in between the pipes in relief of LVR starter Cole Sutherland.

Co-op also has several chances to get the go-ahead marker but failed miserably around the net.

Those mistakes cost Kootenay Co-op in the end as, with the Bombers buzzing around the net, Loeschnik, with his second marker of the game, caught Lake off the line allowing the high shot to dribble over the goal line.

Ryan Lewis had the other LVR marker.

The championship contest goes at 3:45 p.m. Sunday at Lakeside.

Finley’s Jiggers will not defend its title

The Jiggers were dumped 4-1 by Dirty Dozen as the Finley’s Ladies Rec League held semi final Sunday at the Lakeside Pitch.

Dirty Dozen, winners of the regular season title, meets runner up Lily Whites in the championship final Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Lakeside Pitch.

Lily Whites doubled Red Dog 4-2 in the other semi final contest.
