Going the wrong way up a one-way street in Rosemont Wednesday evening for a Saskatchewan resident ended with a severely damaged vehicle.

Nelson Police Department members responded to a 911 report of a motor vehicle accident in the Rosemont area.

Witnesses at the scene stated the vehicle was observed traveling the wrong way up a one-way street before rolling down an embankment onto Wasson Street.

Police members arrived on scene to find the vehicle in a severely damaged state and the two female occupants nearby. Further investigation revealed that the 22-year-old driver from Saskatchewan was unfamiliar with the roadway and made a wrong turn up a one-way street.

Upon realizing her error, the driver attempted to make a hurried correction and struck the curb portion of the roadway before rolling down the embankment.

A 32-year-old female resident of Nelson was also a passenger in the vehicle. Both occupants were treated for minor injuries and released at the scene.

The driver was charged under the Motor Vehicle Act for driving without due care and attention.
