The education year has begun, and it is not just for the students.

Now that the school year has commenced, police are ready in school zones across the city as they are on the alert to catch people speeding in school zones.

School zone speed limits are back in effect, with fines for speeding in a school zone ranging from $196 -$253.

The Nelson Police Department and police forces across the province typically run a back-to-school campaign from Sept. 6 to 16.

Speed Watch volunteers will have speed reader boards to remind drivers to slow down.

Excessive speeders can their vehicles impounded.
