New drivers across B.C. are embracing ICBC’s free mobile app, which lets new drivers practice the driving knowledge test before taking the real thing.

Since ICBC launched the free mobile application in May, the practice knowledge test app has been downloaded almost 13,000 times from the Apple App Store, where it’s available for free to iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad users.

ICBC’s practice knowledge test has been used more than 156,000 times through the app.

The app was ranked the number one What’s Hot app for a month in the education category of the Apple App Store, ranked number two overall in the education category and currently featured as a “Great Canadian App.”

An overwhelming majority of users – 94 per cent – rated the app as 4/5 stars or better, offering comments such as, “It is awesome for studying for your L!” and, “Got my learners cuz of this app!!”

The app randomly generates 25 questions to replicate the real test, including how to successfully make a right-turn, drive in school zones, watch out for vulnerable road users and handle a vehicle that skids and loses control.

Customers who score 100 per cent on a practice test are rewarded by unlocking bonus video content.

The app also includes a series of videos that help new drivers develop their skills on the road, including tips on passing the road test, intersection safety, and how to adjust your speed relative to road and weather conditions.

The app also identifies the nearest driver licensing centre location, with directions on how to get there, hours of operation and contact number.

Customers without a compatible device can take the online practice knowledge test by visiting icbc.com.
