Welcome to Kootenay Country exhibit gearing up to hit the road
The unique partnership of the Regional Districts of Central Kootenay, Kootenay/ Boundary and East Kootenay, along with Columbia Power Corporation, are gearing up to take the Welcome to Kootenay Country display to the Union of British Columbia Municipalities Conference (UBCM) taking place in Vancouver this September.
This will be the third time the exhibit has been displayed at the UBCM. During the 2009 event, the partnership was invited to showcase the Kootenay region during the 2010 Olympic Games.
A new mural was designed especially for the games and was successfully displayed at Richmond’s “O Zone,” where it received global exposure. Visitors had the opportunity to learn what makes life in the Kootenays special through the exhibit’s overview of lifestyle, commercial and service amenities, as well as economic and tourism opportunities.
This year’s Kootenay Country organizing committee is made up of Regional District of Central Kootenay director Mayor Ann Henderson of Salmo, councilor Janine Haughton of Salmo, Wendy Booth, a director from the Regional District of East Kootenay and Marguerite Rotvold, chair of the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary.
Audrey Repin, Columbia Power’s director of Stakeholder Relations and Communications, rounds out the team.
During the tradeshow portion of the conference, regional representatives will take turns manning the Kootenay Country booth and distribute literature and other promotional materials to the delegates.
