Slocan Valley poker float cancelled for the year
Mother Nature seems to have drawn the winning hand this year as Slocan Valley Recreation has decided to cancel the annual Poker Float which was scheduled for Sunday Aug. 7.
“It’s been a weird year all around,” says Craig Lawrence, recreation coordinator.
“Right now the river is still running really really high. Our traditional launch area for the float is still underwater and Winlaw Park where we end the event is freshly out of the water, but is still really muddy plus has a bumper crop of mosquitoes waiting for whoever wants to drop on in. I just feel that it’s a very uncomfortable situation this year.”
Event organizers are asking everyone to save those great float ideas for next year and they’ll promise to work on getting better conditions for the next time around.
This would have been the 18th time the Poker Float would have been attempted and it is the second time it have been cancelled in the past five years.
