Before taking a job with Vernon Vipers of the BCHL, former Leaf coach Chris Shaw said he would run a hockey school for the Nelson Leafs.

The former Leafs skipper delivered with the first ever Nelson Leafs Skills Development Hockey School.

“We have about 40 kids,” Shaw said Thursday from the NDCC Arena during a break at the afternoon session of the younger players.

This week long camp features on-ice and dryland activities daily.

This is Shaw’s final official duty with the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League club. He leaves for Vernon to assume the assistant coaching position with the Vipers.

Taking over for Shaw is former Leaf assistant coach Frank Maida.

Nelson Leafs training camp is set for August 31 to September 3 at the NDCC Arena.
