The Nelson Selects are off to the 2011 B.C. Soccer Provincial B Cup in Powell River.

The Selects scored a pair of shutout victories over Kootenay South and Cranbrook at the Kootenay U13 Girl’s Soccer Playdowns Saturday in Castlegar.

“The coaches are extremely pleased with the effort and skill shown by the Nelson squad this weekend,” said co-coach Pat Perkins after Nelson dumped Cranbrook Rovers 6-0 and rival Kootenay South Rockets 2-0.

“This was the team’s best performance of the year and all players should be proud of their performance individually and as a squad.”

Paul Burkart is the other U13 co-coach.

The run to the zone title was not as easy as the scores appear.

The contest against Kootenay South was scoreless at halftime before Darian Voisard potted a pair of markers to give Nelson the victory.

Haley Cooke was solid between the pipes for Nelson.

Needing a victory to secure the title, the Selects made not mistake against the Rovers, pounding the East Kootenay squad.

Voisard paced the attack with three goals with singles going to Naomi Perkins, Amelia Martze, and Lakpa Diet

Cooke earned her second shutout of the day.

The Selects travel to Cranbrook to compete in the Sam Steele Days tournament before heading west to Power River for the U13 Provincial B Cup July 7-10.
