Bring out your compost.

For the second weekend a new program is in place with local farmers, where individuals can bring their fruit and veggie compostable scraps and the farmers will take this material back to the farm and use in their on-farm compost.

It’s a great way for individuals to really recycle their valuable organic material and turn it back into food.

Many people don’t have a garden, or for one reason or another, do not compost their food waste. Whether it’s because you don’t want to attract bears or simply don’t compost, now you can be part of the food cycle.

The farmers will be bringing large containers (with covers) where we can deposit our organic matter.

It’s good for the farmers, and it’s really beneficial for our landfills. Food waste accounts for a sizeable percentage of product dumped in our landfills and is a major contributor to greenhouse gasses and air pollution.

Please note:

  • Only veggie and fruit waste will be accepted.
  • No meat scraps.
  • Coffee grinds and egg shells are okay

Please get more info from the farmers when you see them on Saturday.
