RCMP investigating shooting incident near Cranbrook

One young man is dead after a shooting incident in Jaffray on Thursday, near Cranbrook.

Cranbrook RCMP, with assistance from the South East District Major Crime Unit in Kelowna, are now investigating the shooting incident.

At 7 p.m. on June 16, a group of young people were inside a house, when one of them was able to access a firearm. The firearm was discharged, striking a 17-year-old male youth.

Although first responders from the Jaffray Fire Department and B.C. Ambulance personnel were quick to respond, their efforts could not save the victim.

Police are currently conducting a scene examination and collecting evidence.

The name of the deceased youth is not being released at this time.
