Nelson salutes 2011 L.V. Rogers graduating class
The L.V. Rogers 2011 Graduation Ceremony is in the books.
More than 180 Grade 12 students received a fond farewell from teachers, School District No. 8 administration along with family and friends during ceremonies Friday and Saturday at the Nelson and District Community Complex Arena.
Close to a sellout crowd packed the arena facility to hear speeches from dignitaries, LVR administration and valedictorian, Conner Butler during Friday’s Cap and Gown.
Graduates received their diploma from LVR Principal Deanna Holitzki. Some also were recipients of the more than $96,000 in scholarships and bursaries from local businesses and community groups to pursue future post-secondary education plans.
Saturday, the family and friends had a chance to see the students decked to the nines during the 2011 LVR Grand March, also at the NDCC Arena.
The weekend was topped off with the annual LVR Cavalcade through the downtown streets of Nelson. Unfortunately, Mother Nature did not cooperate with the weather as a torrential down pour, that at times included hail, drenched the grads as they sat in convertibles and in the back of trucks.
However, even a little rain could not dampen the spirits of grads as they overcame the wet weather to wave and toss candy to Nelsonites watching the parade from city sidewalks and businesses.
The final event for the grads was the Prom Saturday night at LVR.
