Mounties arrest 17-year-old male for his actions during the Game 7 riot
A male, who cannot be identified due to his age, was arrested by RCMP Thursday after turning himself into police.
He was brought to the RCMP Detachment in Burnaby by a family member after images of him looting during the Game 7 riot appeared on the internet.
Police are recommending charges relating to the looting of a Louis Vuitton store at the corner of Howe Street and Georgia in Vancouver, and the destruction of a Vancouver Police vehicle which was flipped upside down during the rioting.
He is set to appear in court in August to answer to charges of break enter and theft, and mischief to property over $5,000.
The RCMP commend this young man for taking responsibility for his actions and they encourage others to do the same.
Meanwhile, the provincial Crown could strike a team of prosecutors to deal with charges from Wednesday’s riot, as nearly 100 people arrested by police during the riot following Game 7 of the Stanley Cup final have been released (pending investigation), according to the Vancouver Province.
Of those, 85 people were taken into custody for breach of peace and eight arrested for intoxication, with another eight arrests made for crimes including theft, mischief, assault with a weapon and break and enter.
Two people charged in connection with a stabbing and were due in court Thursday afternoon. Four people were released with a future court date and two cases did not have enough evidence to proceed.
