L.V. Rogers saluted its major award winners for the 2010-11 high school athletic season during the final day of classes at the Fairview-based campus.

Headlining the winners was the combo of Shawn DeGroot and two-sport athlete Sarah Fuhr.

The pair went above and beyond the in their respective sports as DeGroot and Fuhr won the Most Outstanding Athlete honour.

The Grade 11 DeGroot was Mr. Everything on the West Kootenay Cross Country circuit as he dominated the boy’s season.

Then, at the 2010 B.C. High School Cross Country Championships, DeGroot went a step further finishing 24th overall in the hotly contest race.

DeGroot also had a successful season outside high school sports on the National Cross Country ski circuit, winning the silver medal in the Junior Boy’s 1994 at the 2011 Haywood Canadian Ski Nationals held last month in Canmore, Alta.

Meanwhile, Fuhr made her final season at LVR a memorable one on the hardwood.

Despite not advancing to the provincial tournament for the fifth consecutive year, Fuhr did everything in her power scoring a game-high 37-points during a semi final loss to Grand Forks at the Kootenay High School AA Girl’s Basketball Tournament in the Boundary City.

The spunky point guard was a dominant force throughout the season for the Bombers, leading the team in points and assists.

Fuhr also was a key cog on the Bomber soccer squad, playing most of the season injured.

Other award winners included Andrea Stinson capturing the Scholar Athlete and Best All-Around award.

Stinson was a star on high school cross country circuit and girl’s soccer team.

Winning the male Scholar Athlete award was Connor Butler, who was also the LVR graduating class valedictorian as well as captain of the Bomber rugby team.

Rugby teammate Shawn Hickson won the male Best All-Around award.
