Lakeside Pitch plays host to Kootenay Zone Roundball Playdowns

It’s playoff time for Nelson rep soccer teams as Kootenay squad battle it out for bragging rights, and a berth in the B.C. Soccer Provincial B Cup.

 

Saturday at the Lakeside Pitch it all begins for a handful of Heritage City teams.

The U17 girl’s squad opens play against rival Kootenay South at 10:30 a.m. in a two-game, total goal series.

Game two is Sunday at a yet to be determined site.

Meanwhile, the Nelson Selects meet Kootenay East Rovers in the U16 Girl’s playoff also at 10: 30 a.m. Game two of the playoff goes at 4:30 p.m. Both games are in Nelson at Lakeside.

On the boy’s side of the ledger, the Nelson Selects play a three-team round robin tournament for the Kootenay berth in the U15 Boys Final.

Nelson, joined by Kootenay South and Kootenay East, opens the tournament at 9 a.m. against the Rockets from Trail/Castlegar/Rossland.

The Selects play Kootenay East Sunday at 9 a.m.

The final playoff hosted in Nelson is the U14 Boys event.
Four teams, Nelson, Kootenay East Rovers, Kootenay South and Columbia Valley Titans, play in a round-robin tourney.

Nelson opens at 12:30 p.m. against Columbia Valley before meeting Kootenay East at 6 p.m.

The Selects conclude the tournament Sunday at 12:30 p.m. playing Kootenay South.

Nelson is the early favourite entering the tournament after defeating all three playoff teams at a recent event in Creston.

Most teams travel to Penticton July 7-10 for the Provincial B Cup.

However, two of the provincial tournament divisions, girls and boys, are being hosted by (U13) Powell River and (U15) 100 Mile House.

The U18 Selects from Nelson have an automatic bye into the provincial tournament.
