June 2nd, 2011

Talk about your Canadian culture.

A bhangra dance party — music from a Punjabi folk drum, folk singing, a single-stringed instrument called the iktar, the tumbi and the chimta — that attracted over 7,000 people in Surrey erupted after the Vancouver Canucks beat the Boston Bruins in game one of the Stanley Cup finals Wednesday night.

The Vancouver Province reported that thousands of fans of all ages flooded into the street after police blocked off the roads.

According to the Province, fans of the Canucks have come to the intersection in large numbers since the 2007 Stanley Cup playoffs — starting at around 70 people, and growing to around 700 people that year.
