The committee that supported the people displaced by the Kerr Apartment Building fire in January want to hold a public appreciation and dedicate a tree in Lakeside Park.

Approval was given by City council Monday night at their regular meeting to choose a tree for the Lakeside Park playing fields area.

As well, the committee will be holding a dedication ceremony for Nelson and area residents and organizations to recognize the generosity and support given to the residents of the Kerr Apartment Building, and that a fee of $250 be waived as an in-kind donation.

The committee had been working with residents towards the re-establishment of their losses and long-term accommodation solutions.

The type of tree to be planted and the day of the dedication ceremony were not announced.
