Potential postal strike averted as settlement negotiated
Through snow or sleet or looming postal strike, the mail will be coming through on Wednesday.
There will be no “strike activity” this week, the Canadian Union of Postal Workers said Sunday, and it will be “business as usual across our network.”
About 48,000 mail carriers and inside postal workers had threatened to walk off the job on Wednesday if they couldn’t reach a deal with Canada Post.
The union said that it has negotiated “a settlement to this round of collective bargaining with Canada Post.”
One of the sticking points was a salary reductions for new employees. The company wanted to reduce labour costs by reducing wages from $24 an hour to $17.50.
