The first Chinatown Week landed in Nelson Monday as the city pays homage to one group of people that were instrumental in building this city.

Symbols of celebration and good luck — red lanterns — will be hung along the downtown streets and in businesses on and around Baker Street.

A commemorative rock plaque will be made — and set at the corner of Hall and Vernon streets — to honour the efforts by the Chinese on the rail lines and market gardens.
