Get out the rake and hoe, it’s time to celebrate 10 years of local gardening expertise at the 10th annual Nelson Garden Festival this Saturday in downtown Nelson.

“It started out simply on Hall Street in 2001,” said organizer Suzy Hamilton. “And now it is simply fantastic. The festival is a real testimony to the quality of growers and artisans we have here in the Kootenay.”

With more than 40 vendors selling everything from local seeds, plants, bulbs, trees, garden ornaments and furniture, the festival has moved to the 200 block of Baker Street and runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the Saturday before Mother’s Day.

“We always schedule the festival for Mother’s Day weekend because it’s such a popular place to find something for Mom, or to bring Mom down to pick out something for herself,” said Hamilton.

Music, community group info tables and lots of gardening stories add to the mix of fun, flowers and festivity.

The festival is sponsored by the WK EcoSociety.
