Seven cast-off pews from the Baptist Church are being transformed by local artists while five well-used chairs from Willow point Church are being reinvented by talented teens at the Nelson Youth Centre.

The public is invited to vote on the People’s Choice Award for the best pew with a prize for the winning artist. Watch for profiles of the participating artists.

Come and view the pews and imagine how you can enliven your home or patio with a creative and unique piece of furniture. Come and enjoy Grans to Grans gala evening enlivened by auctioneer Corky Evans.

All proceeds from the auction will go to the Stephen Lewis Foundation Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign which supports community level initiatives in Africa that provide care and support for women, orphans and people living with HIV/AIDS.

Grans to Grans will be auctioning off the artwork after a reception at 6 p.m., May 28 at the old Presbyterian Church at Victoria and Kootenay streets.

The transformed furniture will be on display at the church, May 22-28, 12 to 6 p.m. each day.
