Chicken debate ruffles through council once again

It was a lot of clucking but no eggs were laid as City council again discussed the keeping of chickens within city limits.

With no real consensus achieved by council on allowing the keeping of hens in Nelson backyards, the matter was moved to the priority setting list for discussion, to see how it should be pursued.

Coun. Kim Charlesworth forced the issue Monday night by giving a notice of motion to direct staff to prepare an amendment to the Animal Control Bylaw to allow the keeping of hens in the city, with appropriate guidelines.
