B.C.'s new minimum-wage hike hits Sunday

April 29th, 2011

The first of three increases in BC’s minimum hourly wage announced last month by Premier Christy Clark kicks in on Sunday.

The hourly wage for most workers rises to $8.75 effective May 1, and the $6 training/first-job wage is also being scrapped that day.

The second increment, to $9.50 an hour, will come in on Nov. 1, and the third, to $10.25 an hour, on May 1, 2012.

The exception is for liquor servers, whose minimum wage will be set at $8.50 an hour on Sunday, $8.75 an hour on Nov. 1, and $9 an hour on May 12, 2012.
